April Carrasquero, Practicum Student- Lamar University

Hi, I am so glad you are here —– taking the very first step! My name is April Carrasquero and I am excited for you and I to start the journey to either a healing process, to set goals, and/or to come upon the things you have yet to discover, but together.

Rest assured that our space will be a non-judgemental and client-centered space to give you the opportunity to build your courage and find healthy perceptions of yourself. My experience includes working with all ages within family units that have gone through rough and tough situations in life. However, I strongly believe that the setbacks do not define them, but have turned them into the stronger person or family unit they are today. I take pride in working with variety of issues from depression, anxiety, personal growth, anger management, social skills, conflict resolution, behavior modification, grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation and emotional disturbance in children, adolescents and adults. My own personal background and experiences include living firsthand some of the misfortunes that come from growing up and just being a part of this world.

I have had the privilege of being a public school counselor for the past 10 years, but I have reached the decision as I wish to expand my compassionate and energetic personality to help others. With that being said, I have returned to gather more training, study and insight as I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor-intern student at Lamar University.

My goal is to incorporate a variety of techniques to meet the needs of each client working collaboratively with an amazing team that I have been blessed with. I find pleasure in guiding clients to identify their own strengths and inner resources they have yet to discover while giving clients the tools and support they need to maximize and strengthen their full potential they have yet to discover.
