About Jamie Shawn Counseling Student

Hi! I’m Jamie Shawn counseling student, and I personally want to welcome you to your very own safe space here at Prosperity Counseling. When you walk through the door, you are entering a place of acceptance and unconditional positive regard. As we often find ourselves feeling the need to shield ourselves from various threats or struggles, internal and external, throughout our daily lives, it can be deeply healing and rejuvenating to finally have a space to lay that heavy armor down and just be ourselves. As a counselor in training, I offer you such a place, one where you are supported throughout your journey of self-exploration and healing.

I attended Texas A&M University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries, with a focus on a science composite for secondary education. I am currently working on obtaining my Master of Education degree in Counseling and Development, with a concentration in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, from Lamar University.

It is important to me to foster an atmosphere of empathy and respect for all those who come to counseling. Each person has their own views, beliefs, and perspectives in life, and I enjoy getting to know people and working to see the world through their eyes. I take a holistic approach to counseling while implementing various theoretical methods to match the needs of the individual. Some empirically based methods used include but are not limited to solution-focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems, and mindfulness.

In the spirit of getting to know one another, I am married to my best friend and enjoy spending as much time with him and my family as possible. I like to sail, fly, and work on fixing airplanes and cars. I also like hiking and riding a tandem bike with my husband (which was his fun idea originally). As active as this all sounds, I thoroughly enjoy sitting back and relaxing in the company of my family and friends. Sharing the same passions as others or meeting those with completely different interests are both valuable and special moments.
