Art Therapy supports traditional talk counseling by creating a space for you to explore your challenges and engage in processing using creative art directives.
Hello, I'm Brenda Cruz-Flores, a student intern with Prosperity Counseling. I am excited to facilitate guided art experientials - no artistic skill needed :) Art therapy welcomes all ages and challenges; all you need to bring is a bit of curiosity and imagination. I understand that art therapy is not the best fit for all. When facilitating traditional counseling, I resonate with holistic person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy, welcoming shifts depending on your individual needs.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Sam Houston State University where I majored in Psychology and minored in Studio Art. During my time at SHSU, I volunteered facilitating therapeutic art directives for children and families at a local hospitality house for about 3 years. This experience affirmed my belief in the power of art and its relation to therapy. I am currently enrolled in a Master's Degree in Art Therapy/Counseling at Southwestern College & New Earth Institute where I had the opportunity to experience art therapy personally, and I genuinely believe it's a gem! My educational, professional, and personal experiences have supported my development in skills I believe are the most essential in building a strong therapeutic alliance; presence, compassion, and unconditional positive regard.
I know that looking for therapeutic support can feel like climbing a mountain, and attending your first session may take a lot of courage. You may seek therapy for small challenges or to process deep-rooted trauma. Regardless, I hope to walk alongside you in a way that honors your individuality and encourages a greater sense of openness and authenticity in turn, supporting your journey of healing and growth. Once again, welcome to Prosperity Counseling, and congratulations on taking the first step.
I am so excited!! ~Brenda
